USH-51 Reconstruction

The City of Portage will be reconstructing USH-51 (W. Wisconsin Street), from W. Pleasant Street to W. Edgewater Street beginning on May 5th, 2025. Work will include installation of all new utilities along this roadway and is expected to be completed in late July. Following the City’s reconstruction, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation will be performing asphalt resurfacing on the same segment of roadway with an anticipated completion date in late August.
During construction, USH-51 (W. Wisconsin Street), from W. Pleasant Street to W. Edgewater Street will remain completely closed to all traffic. There will be a number of bypasses to avoid construction, however, all truck and heavy traffic will be required to follow the posted detour route.
The City will be hosting a Public Informational Meeting on April 28th from 5:30PM to 6:30PM for members of the public affected by the construction to ask questions related to the project. The City appreciates everyone’s patience and indulgence during the construction project.
