Special Leaf Pickup

11/14/2024

There will be a special City of Portage leaf pick-up on Monday, November 18th. Please have bagged leaves on the curb/boulevard by 6:00AM. Guidelines for leaf pickup can be found on the City Website at https://www.portagewi.gov/brush-and-grass-collection. Leaves that are not bagged will not picked up. The Airport Road Compost Site is also open for leaf drop off. Note, do not leave plastic bags at this site when removing your leaves.

Road Closure 11/14/2024

Beginning tomorrow morning, November 14th, at 7:00AM, the northbound traffic lane of MacFarlane Road between W. Pleasant Street and W. Wisconsin Street will be closed for concrete road repairs. A detour route will be posted utilizing W. Conant Street to W. Wisconsin Street. The southbound traffic lane will remain open during the repairs. The roadway is expected to back open to the public by close of business on Thursday, November 14th.

Lane Closure - New Pinery Road

10/30/2024

In an attempt to alleviate flooding associated with the railroad viaduct between Albert Street and Oneida Street, City crews will be installing a temporary pump and discharge hosing along the northbound traffic lanes of New Pinery/Dewitt. The right-hand northbound traffic lane of New Pinery/Dewitt will be closed beginning this afternoon from Burns Street  to the viaduct. Traffic will remain unchanged in the left-hand northbound traffic lane. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Water Main Break

10/25/2024

In association with today’s water main repair, there will be an additional water main shut off beginning this afternoon on MacFarlane Road between Oneida Street and Burns Street as well as Burns Street from MacFarlane Road to Dunn Street.  Customers whose water services fall along this segment of roadway will not have water during the period of work. All previous water shut downs will remain in place (MacFarlane Road between Burns Street and Emmett Street). We apologize for any inconveniences during this timeframe.

Silver Lake Drive

Beginning Monday, October 28, 2024, there will be utility work taking place on Silver Lake Drive between W. Wisconsin Street/CTH-CX and Airport Road. During the utility work Silver Lake Drive will remain closed. A detour route will be posted utilizing CTH-CX, New Pinery Road, W. Collins Street, and Airport Road. The roadway is expected to be back open to the public by close of business on Friday, November 1, 2024. We apologize for an inconvenience during this closure.

Lead & Copper Inventory

The Portage Water Utility has posted the Lead and Copper Service Line Inventory list, making it publicly accessible per the Code of Federal Regulation 40 CFR 141.84(a)(8). The inventory materials list can be found on our City website at https://www.portagewi.gov/utilities-water-and-wastewater, under the Public Notice section. There is also a link to the inventory list posted at the Water Utility office window at the Portage Municipal Building at 115 W. Pleasant Street.

North Tower Drain Down Maintenance

9/11/2024

The Portage Water Utility will be conducting maintenance on the North Tower located on West Slifer Street the morning of Monday, September 16, 2024 . We will be flushing hydrants in the W. Slifer Street, Airport Road, Klemp Street, Schultz Street, Collipp Street and Silver Lake Road areas to drain down the water tower for this maintenance. During this timeframe residents may experience temporary discolored water and may experience slight loss of water pressure in the affected areas. If discolored water is experienced, please flush cold water through your bath tub faucet if available. The work associated with this maintenance is expected to be completed late Tuesday morning the 17th at which point we will begin refilling the tower.

Slifer Street Road Closure

Please note that E. Slifer Street is still closed to through traffic until all construction work has been completed. Construction crews will continue working on roadway striping and restoration into next week. Please continue to use the attached detours. The roadway will not be open to through traffic until all barricades have been removed from the site. Please refrain from moving any barricades as these are in place for both worker and driver safety as well as to prevent damage to your vehicle. Individuals found moving barricades and/or using the roadway as a through street may be subject to citation.
