OUR DEPARTMENT
The Portage Police Department is a community-oriented department which serves the City of Portage with a population of 10,300 citizens and operates 24/7. The City of Portage is the county seat located in Columbia County, Wisconsin. This family consists of 24 Sworn Officers, 1 Community Service Officers and 2 Administrative Assistants. The department consists of a Patrol Division, K9 Unit, Detective Division, Records Division, a School Resource Officer program, and a Volunteer in Police Services Unit.
We believe that building strong partnerships with our community fosters a beneficial resource for preventing and solving crime, trust, and support during challenging times. Through the teamwork approach, this department and the community has mutual respect and strive to work towards making the Portage area a great place to live, visit, and raise a family. We are proud of the connections we have established and work hard every day to keep this intact.
Though a supervisor is on 24 hours a day, the best way to contact the police department for police services is through the Columbia County Dispatch Center at (608)742-2171. During business hours, Monday- Friday 8:00am-4:30pm, you can reach the police department, records department and administration at (608) 742-2174.
